Interview: Joel Anthony of the Miami Heat

On January 26th, the Heat came to NY for their 3rd matchup with the Knicks. I had the opportunity to sit down with Heat center Joel Anthony at the Palace hotel to talk about his path to the NBA and all of the attention surrounding the new team.

The next day the Knicks won their third meet, after losing the first two, 93-88. I told Joel we were going to win!

Pardon My Fresh presents "The Day After"

This EP release from Pardon My Fresh Music Group is a post Valentine's day ode to jilted lovers everywhere. With titles like "Stupid Cupid" and "Cupid Must Die", you'd think this is a soundtrack to the Haters' Ball. It's not that at all though. 'The Day After' is a collection of stories about love in all of it's raw and unpleasant moments as well as the flighty and fanciful ones.
The bulk of the production is handled by in-house producer and Beyond This Point band member Mylon. The disc really showcases how capable a musician he is. Standout tracks for me are "Untitled", "Ex's and Oh's" and "8-Bit Luv". AO gives some great production as well on the 2 tracks he delivers. The two offer up a cohesive funk/soul/alternative gumbo that is a ton of fun to listen to.

If you've ever dealt with the side effects of true love, you'll greatly enjoy the stories and music contained in this project. German DJ Flula Borg handles interlude duty and trust me, they are hilarious. Only Flula could/would threaten to put grape jelly in Cupid's pants or shove one of Cupid's own arrows up his own ass.

Siya - "Elevator Dreams"

If you haven't heard of Siya, prepare yourself for something new. I hate to box people in with comparisons but this one is so glaring that you can't help but at least make a tiny reference. *Ahem* She's like a female Wiz Khalifa. Now, unbox her and open your mind, ears and heart to 'Elevator Dreams'.

This mixtape is the culmination of almost 2 years of work.  This up and coming "femcee" has genuine skill and a very unique story. She's amassed quite a following underground and even caught the attention of clothier Rocksmith Tokyo. Her collaborative video with Rocksmith and Royal Rae for the single "Smoke Drink" can be viewed here: "Smoke Drink".

If you dig the music, you can catch up with Siya on twitter: @Siya_ or via her website www.IamSiya.com

Fev - "Paradise Soda"

What the hell is Paradise Soda? I can honestly say, I have no idea.  What I can tell you is that this track is the seltzer of soda. No filler. Nothing sweet. Just hard carbonated water; and water is life.

Fev is on a rampage right now and is beautifully putting powerful imagery around his art form. Going forward, expect every new release to be accompanied by a visual leading up to the release of his next creative effort, "Propaganda".

Turn your speakers up and press play. Have a sip of Paradise Soda. Hip-Hop won't taste the same after this. I promise.

Raine - "iPad Flow"

Bronx native Red Pen Raine just blessed the web with this short freestyle today. I have to say, I haven't been so refreshed in a long time. The creativity and ability to hear music in anything is truly remarkable and 1 minute of Raine leaves you wanting for a downpour.
