Fruits of Labor

Networking is a key component to what I do here on this weblog. Whenever I'm out and about at events, I'm not just working to bring you truly unique coverage. I'm also working to build on the foundation I've already established. All for the sake of bringing you bigger, better and more engaging content. That means talking to people, sharing ideas and following through.

It is with great pleasure that I share with you my first support role for a major industry event! I'm blessed and proud to be mentioned with Russell Gustave, Atlantic Records, Universal Records, Fred the Godson, Nikki Rich Models, Skyy Vodka, Mills Miller and many more. Check out the video below and MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the event. Come out and party with us. It's going to be epic.

Statik Selektah feat. Big K.R.I.T. & Freddie Gibbs - "Play the Game"

As far as I'm concerned, Duck Down can do no wrong. The label seems to be entirely locked in on their new identity and their blurring the lines between independent and major labels.

This is the first official release from Statik Selektah's upcoming release 'Population Control.' The track features Sha Money XL's golden child Big K.R.I.T. and Freddie Gibbs. Click below to listen to the audio. It's gooooood.

'Girls Got Kicks' Book Launch

East Harlem sneaker boutique Goliath played host to the official launch of 'Girls Got Kicks.' The first stop of a multi-city tour that currently has release parties scheduled in Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Toronto and even Johannesburg, among others! The book is an in depth look at female sneaker culture around the world. Covering everything from Tomboys and Girly Girls to Mothers and the "four letter word" ... pink. It truly is a fantastic work, in words and pictures, and author Lori Lobenstine absolutely nailed it.

Ladies featured in the book signed their respective pages and took pictures as guests mingled. I was very excited to see these every day heroines be superstars. As they are largely underrepresented in this sub culture and under-served by shoe companies, they took it upon themselves to show the world in a BIG way that they love this culture/hobby just as much as the next ... guy.

Check out a couple of photos from the event and hop over to the Girls Got Kicks website to learn more about the book and to purchase your copy. Definitely be on the lookout for GGK in your city!

Noah - "Supernova"

New music from the west coast kid, Noah. I really dig this artists work. I like (overall) his lyrics. I like his delivery. I love his musicality. This new track is no exception with it's smoothed out Euro feel. It reminds me of my junior and senior years in high school when I was discovering artists/groups like Tricky, Cake and Beck. The smooth samples fused with heavy drums and other Hip-Hop inspiration captivated me then and still does now. "Supernova" is a deja vu for me and that feels good.

Check it out and, of course, let me know how you like it in the comments.

Dee Goodz - "The Wave" Series

Welcome to day 1 of the "The Wave". I don't know another independent artist that works like Dee Goodz. SXSW appearances? Check. Mixtapes? 4 of 'em. Internet support? Every top Hip-Hop blog out there knows Dee Goodz. As a matter of fact, the Nashville based MC will be in NYC later this month for a media run. Oh, did I mention he does this entirely on his own? No management. No deal. Just passion.

"The Wave" is Dee's daily fix of fresh material. Expect a new track ... Every. Single. Day. That's drive. It's quite interesting that "The Wave" begins on the anniversary of Tupac's death, too. At the rate Dee is releasing material, he'll have a catalog as extensive as the late great's!

Click, listen and enjoy the Goodz...
