DEAD!

I started taking Karate classes September of last year. I joined because I've always been interested in the martial arts and, more importantly, I wanted an organized and regular way to get back into shape after I left the hospital. I knew that if I just joined a gym, I wouldn't go half of the time and that would be a stupid waste of money.

I joined a traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate school. Today was the first of a 3 day seminar taught by a master (8th degree black belt). His name is Hiroyasu Fujishima and he is the Chief Instructor in the US for SKIF.

I drove out to Long Island for the event and almost froze myself along the way. I had a high fever last night and got myself through the day with Tylenol. I felt like a complete noodle during class and being that I'm still largely a beginner, I was struggling to keep up as I was one of the VERY few people there below brown belt. There was only one person below me. A white belt. I'm a yellow belt and there was one green belt. Everyone else was blue, brown or black. It was nuts.

Still, it was a great experience and I'm excited to see what we get into tomorrow.

How NOT To Play Beer Pong

Just after the new year, a small group of us got together to do a little bar hopping. We found comfort, and cheap food, at 1-2-3 Burger. We hit the basement for a little privacy and what we thought would amount to a few rounds of Beer Pong. After I got thoroughly thrashed by Riddle Fontaine the next challenger was Stormster. Riddle, being a perfect gentleman allowed her to throw first. She missed on both throws.

Rinse the balls. (No homo) Riddle throws. Two in one cup. Game over.

K'naan - Troubadour

Ever since I first heard K'naan's music, I've been a devoted fan. It only took one song. The music, the lyrics and K'naan's delivery were all so potent that I knew immediately that he was someone I wanted to hear a LOT more from. I started poking around in search engines to find out more about him and his life story is simply awe inspiring. I was in Japan at the time and I ordered his CD online. The contents of the disc that arrived at my home, 'The Dustyfoot Philosopher', some weeks later touched my soul in a way that no other artist has in quite a long time.

I've eagerly awaited word of a new release from him. Finally, the wait is nearing a close. K'naan's second studio album, titled Troubadour, is scheduled to release on February 24th, 2009. He's already released 3 singles from the album. One of them, "Somalia" is available as a free download. The other two, "ABC's" and "Dreamer" can be heard on the artists web site. Click the images at top to listen and download.

If you've never heard this artist's music, definitely take the time when you can to discover something POWERFUL.

I GOT ONE!

Every sporting event I go to, I always want to be one of the lucky people to get something from the game. You know....sit near the tunnel at an NBA game and get an autograph, catch a foul or homerun ball at a baseball game, etc. Well, last night I finally got my turn!

The homie ChicoFontaine had 4 tickets to the Nets vs. Thunder game at the Izod Center. He couldn't use them and offered them to me. I jumped at the chance and brought along my wife, son and a friend.

During half-time, the crowd exciters came out with their t-shirt launchers and shot a few t-shirts to various spots in the arena. After NONE of them coming even remotely close to our area, I sat down. I turned to my friend and said, "Man, those things never even come close to where I'm sitting!" No sooner than the last word graced my lips, one comes flying almost directly at me. My wife stuck out one of her Cheer Stix and grazed it and it fell into the seat right next to my son! We were all giddy with laughter and shock.

Not very long after that, my son and I were kind of tuned out of the game for a moment. The camera's were panning the crowd so people could shake it for the Jumbotron. I stood up and held my son in my arms and we hooted and hollered at the cameraman. Sure enough, he points the lens right at us and when the Jumbotron switches to his feed, there we are in grand pixelation. Again, we erupted with laughter.

We had such a great time! The nets won in overtime and Brook Lopez had a career night. I tried to get Kevin Durant's game shoes but he ignored me. Another first for me as I've never been able to get to the tunnel.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics from the game:

NYOIL - Father Father

NYOIL recently released this video to the public. The song was originally put together for the Barack Obama mix CD hosted by Green Lantern. He wanted to do more with the song and, thus, asked fans and fathers to send in photographs of themselves with their children. Here is the result:

Sometimes we are all a little geeky...

... don't we all know that situation?
Nothing to do, just browsing arround the net and all of a sudden an hour is gone...

Gave me an inspiration for a self-portrait yesterday...

On a Sidenote:
Does anyone know any Toy or Vinyl COllectors?
I want to sell my Nike "Be True" Diva Figure...

Thats it so far from my end of the world guys!

Take care,
chris

Back In Business...

Man, it's been a long time since I've been able to blog. I moved recently and things were hectic. It took me a while to get my web access setup, but it's FINALLY here. I got hooked up with Verizon FiOS and it's a phenomenal service. The DVR and on demand features are just nuts.

Enough about that....

The holiday season was awesome. I got to spend time with family and friends from Thanksgiving on.

Also got a new car prior to the new year. Having a blast with that.

So yeah, I'm back in business. I'll be keeping the blog updated regularly now as I don't have to jump through hoops to get connected.
